Keiko Abe International Marimba Academy

The 9th Report

The 9th Keiko Abe International Marimba Academy was held

The 9th Keiko Abe International Marimba Academy, co-hosted by Toho Gakuen School of Music and Yamaha Corporation, was held at Yamaha Ginza on August 3rd and 4th. Inviting Jean Geoffroy, the professor at Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse de Lyon, this year’s academy featured 2 days of master classes and concert.

Focusing on great Japanese composers Akira Miyoshi and Minoru Miki in the master classes, Abe talked about episodes of herself with the composers and their messages of the pieces. Their dedicated lectures delighted the full audience.

The first stage of the concert at Yamaha Hall was the stage for young marimba players who had graduated Marimba Academy. Abe and Geoffroy gave great solo and duo performances at the second stage.
