Thixomolding tool introduction
The specific gravity of magnesium alloy is about 1.8 and it has an excellent intensity (intensity by weight) for making outstanding tools. Yamaha Fine Technologies manufactures magnesium thixomolding tools.Magnesium must be melted at approximately 600Ο and must be filled into the metal tool before it gets cold and solidifies. The time required is approximately 0.02 seconds. When the metal mold is designed and manufactured, behavior of the magnesium within 0.02 seconds must be predicted.The liquid magnesium at 600Ο behaves like water and has the same viscosity. However, it gradually solidifies as it cools down. Compared to plastic, its behavior with the tool is very complex. Yamaha Fine Technologies uses CAE flow analysis to predict the circulation of magnesium and reflects it in the design and at the same time store the technology on the system. We have been handling 3D CAD, which is the basis of CAE analysis application for twenty years. 3D CAD as tool provides the integrated information associated with oncurrent engineering with our customers/CAE/tool design/CAM/ processing and measurement, and contributes to the shortening of lead-time starting from product development to product manufacturing.
