The CRW-F1 is the first drive to offer the revolutionary DiscT@2 Laser Labeling System. Yamaha's industry-leading Full CAV technology and precise control of the key elements of recording, (specifically: tracking, rotation, and laser inten-sity and positioning) allows text and graphic data to be tattooed to the media's data surface after the writing stage is complete. Usually a CD-R drive burns digital information as 0.001mm EFM signal patterns, but although this would allow for graphic burning the effect would be too fine for the naked eye to see. On the contrary, DiscT@2 enables 0.1mm graphic burning, about the same resolution as a 250dpi printer, with 128 levels of grayscale gradation.
After the writing stage is complete you can fill the remaining outer portion of the disc with text and graphic data such as the names of the songs or files on the disc, personal signatures or company logos, creation date (especially useful when making hard drive backups).

When Advanced Audio Master Quality Recording mode is enabled, the system widens the lands and pits during recording. This significantly reduces jitter and improves audio and music recording quality thus producing clear faithful playback that rivals professionally prepared music CDs. In addition, widening the pits delivers superior durability and longer life to the disc as well as making grooves more easily distinguished, and therefore easier for your CD player to read.
Of course, the CRW-F1 includes this newest Advanced Audio Master Quality mode which now supports 1x and 8x writing speeds as well as the original 4x speed mode. You can select proper writing speed for the media in use, or use the Best mode allowing the CRW-F1 to determine the best writing speed.

The new Yamaha CRW-F1 maintains a constant rotation speed from the beginning of the recording process, on the inner tracks of the disc, all the way to the tracks at the outer edge. Combined with full digital optical laser pick up servo control, Full CAV (Full Constant Angular Velocity) technology enables a synthesis of both high-quality recording and super high writing and re-writing speeds.
By eliminating fluctuation in rotation speed during the recording process, the CRW-F1 effectively removes the biggest cause of the writing errors that lead to unread-able media. The adaptation of Yamaha's original writing strategy technology also contributes to increased high-speed recording quality. The spindle motor of the CD-R unit maintains a constant disc rotation speed of 8700 rpm throughout the entire writing process, while the actual writing speed smoothly increases from 19x to 44x. This allows the CRW-F1 to burn an entire 700MB CD-R disc in just 163 seconds!*

Of course speed is by no means the only concern, even more important is the quality and readability of the completed CD-R disk. The graphic below illustrates results from comparison tests of the CRW-F1 and high speed CD-R drives from the two closest competitors, clearly showing the quality difference of the completed discs.

Dynamic damper effectiveness comparison
(Yamaha in-house trial)

Adding to high speed writing stability are two of Yamaha's newest technolo-gies, the dynamic damper mechanism and the LSI YDC132-VÅh (the virtual heart of the CRW-F1). The newly devel-oped damper mechanism dramatically reduces vibration and noise, allowing smooth acceleration and rotation at ultra fast rotation speeds of 8500-9000 rpm, while the LSI controls the CAV opera-tion, optical laser pick up servo, as well as other essential functions within the CRW-F1 drive. Yamaha's continued technological advancements and exten-sive CAV experience not only sustain its position as the industry leader in CD-R/ RW technology, but also makes the CRW-F1 the best choice as the record-ing method for all your important data.

Yamaha's newly developed LSI ÅgYDC132-VÅh is the heart and brains of the-CRW- F1 drive. It enables high-quality and high-speed writing by meticulously controlling all the fundamental features of the-CRW- F1 drive, including:

Ultra Speed sets the new standard for CD-RW ReWriting at 24x and gives you two high-speed rewriting options depending on the type of rewriting that you need to do. Full CAV mode offers 24x rewriting for random access packet data rewriting, while High-Quality Partial CAV mode does the same for con-ventional data rewriting.

CD-MRW offers packet-writing capabilities that have not been available until now. Specifically, it has made writing and re-writing files on a CD-RW as easy as to and from a floppy disc while reducing disc-formatting time from 10 min-utes down to about 2 and vastly improving management capabilities for dam-aged disc sectors.

Ever get tired of a song or want to change the track order after you have com-pleted a CD? Now CD-RW Audio Track Edit makes editing a finished CD-RW as easy as editing an MD. Erase the final track or add new songs directly to the CD, without first having to save WAVE files to your hard drive and erasing the entire CD-RW disc, then play it on your *CD player or *car stereo. * Please verify that your CD player or car stereo is able to play CD-RW discs before taking advantage of this application

Yamaha's original technology - SafeBarn features an 8MB memory buffer, Buffer Underrun Protection, and Optimum Write Speed Control. These three resources combine to provide the best possible writing environment and fur-ther optimize reliability.
