Bb Trumpet
This is the ‘standard’ trumpet used in most bands. It is the most versatile of the trumpet family and is found in all genres of music. A similar trumpet pitched in C is commonly found in symphony orchestras.
Cornet
The cornet is also in Bb and is similar to the trumpet but with a softer tone since it has a large percentage of rounded, conical tubing as compared to the trumpet which has more cylindrical tubing for a more brilliant sound.

Piccolo Trumpet Flugelhorn
Piccolo Trumpet
The piccolo trumpet has a very pure sound which is very well suited for the high, brilliant solos of the Baroque literature. Half the size of the Bb trumpet, it is pitched in high Bb or A and gives clarity and security in the high register.
Flugelhorn
Also in Bb and played like a trumpet but with a very deep mouthpiece and large open bell for a very dark and mellow sound. The flugelhorn is an important solo instrument in UK style brass bands and is very popular in jazz.
