First place the ligature on the mouthpiece, position the reed aligning its tip with the tip of the mouthpiece.
Then gently tighten the screws to hold the reed firmly in place.
With your lip covering your bottom teeth and your upper lip and teeth resting on the mouthpiece, gently try blowing through the mouthpiece while keeping the corners of your mouth closed to prevent air leaking out.
