Place the lip plate of the headjoint against your bottom lip.
Blow across the embouchure hole (as children do with an empty soda bottle) while slightly turning the flute and experimenting with the direction of your breath until you find best position for you.

Attach the headjoint to the flute body and blow across the embouchure hole in the same manner as in #1 and again find the best position to produce a well centered tone.
Everyone's lips and teeth are a little different. It is important to find the best angle to give a centered and resonant tone. Experiment!
