Every year the “Hamamatsu Station Promenade Concert” sponsored by Hamamatsu City and the Hamamatsu Culture Foundation features brass bands from junior and senior high schools in Hamamatsu, as well as from the public at large, who perform every Saturday and Sunday. Hamamatsu is seeking to establish itself as the “City of Music” and plays host to many music-related activities, and this is one such event. The Yamaha Symphonic Band also contributes significantly to the region. The day of the concert was warm and so sunny that it was hard to believe we were in the midst of the Japanese rainy season. Crowds of people came to listen as we performed six cheerful marches and popular music pieces.
We also introduced sixteen new members who joined the band this year. Including the new members, seventy-six people played at the concert providing an entertaining performance for those in the audience.

Program
With the cherry-trees blooming in the fullness of spring, the Yamaha Symphonic Band held its 43rd annual Spring concert in the main hall at ACT City Hamamatsu. This performance marked a new start for the band, which has now grown into quiet a sizable organization with over eighty members. Tickets for the concert sold out on the day, with people waiting in line for an hour before the doors opened. This line grew steadily until it was longer than any queue we had drawn to date, so that before long the hall was full. Just prior to the performance, we read out a congratulatory telegram informing us that Ryu Shionoya, Japan痴 Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, was in attendance.
The first piece on the program was A. Reed痴 滴ounds of Spring, which kicked the concert off with a dazzling start. We followed with D. Grantham痴 鼎ourt Music," and 鉄ing with Sincerity" by Jun Nagao.
The program closed with 撤ines of Rome by O. Respighi, and n the final stages of the show we performed a 澱anda," placing members of the band on the upper and lower areas of the second story balconies. With the entire hall wrapped in music from both the stage and the balconies, the concert came to a resounding finish. We would like to express our gratitude for the support and cooperation of a great many people, and to those who came to see us perform.

Yamaha welcomed Yuri Nitta as their conductor, performing Satoshi Yagisawa痴 Harlequin no Shanikusai Juan Milo ni Yosete, followed by Toshio Mashima痴 Daiju no Uta.
The band gave an inspiring performance of Harlequin no Shanikusai with notes cascading from each and every instrument, a performance worthy of Satsohi Yagisawa himself.
