question What are clarinets made from?
answer Clarinets are made from the wood of a tree called granadila. This is a broad-leaved tree that grows in savanna regions such as Tanzania and Kenya immediately below the equator.

Granadila
This wood exhibits little expansion and contraction in response to temperature changes. It is heavy, with a specific gravity of 1.2 to 1.3, so it sinks in water.
The unique sound of clarinets is produced by this heavy wood.
